PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
